Calls for help high at Legal Aid Society
The Daily Journal - May 11, 2010 Every week, up to 50 families facing foreclosure on the Peninsula seek the help of the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County.
Wells Fargo Supports Legal Aid
In January, Legal Aid received a generous gift from Wells Fargo Bank in the amount of $5,000. The representatives from Wells Fargo toured the Legal Aid offices and presented the check to the Legal Aid Board of Directors.
FAP Collaborates on California Breathing Report
The staff of the Family Advocacy Program helped write a recent California Breathing Report on code enforcement code enforcement policies and practices for dealing with moisture intrusion, ventilation, pest control and other housing issues that are particularly relevant to people with asthma. FAP often helps families that are having habitability issues that lead to asthma. The research for the report, Code Enforcement and Healthy Homes: An Analysis of Practices in Four Bay Area Counties, was conducted and compiled by a network of community-based medical legal partnerships like FAP.
Housing Attorney Shirley Gibson on the Radio
A local radio show called "Your Legal Rights", hosted by Chuck Finney, San Mateo DA for Consumer Fraud, assists the general public with legal issues. On December 2, 2009, the show focused on Small Claims and Legal Aid Housing Attorney Shirley Gibson was invited to speak about landlord-tenant issues common to Small Claims Court.
Domestic Violence Collaborative Receives DOJ Grant
The Stop Abuse Legal Collaborative (SLAC), a collaboration between the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA), recently received a grant from the Department of Justice. SLAC provides domestic violence survivors with short-term and long-term legal assistance and representation. Thanks to Congresswoman Jackie Speier for her support!
