PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Legal Aid Society provides free legal advice and assistance to low-income families and children with special needs. To see if you are eligible for Legal Aid help, please call (650) 558-0915.

Kids in Crisis Project (KIC) assists children with disabilities and their families in San Mateo County. We help provide answers to questions regarding:

• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• California Children’s Services
• Special education needs
• The Golden Gate Regional Center, which serves individuals with developmental disabilities

Legal Aid has seen firsthand the problems children encounter in trying to access the early intervention and pre-school special education services they need. Many children qualify for programs operated by the Golden Gate Regional Center and their public school district, but their parents have been deterred from using these services because of the complexity of navigating through the system. Legal Aid worked closely with our clients and advocates on their behalf to solve these problems.

Read Robert’s story to learn how Legal Aid helped him get the education he deserved.
