The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, along with more than 70 other organizations, has signed a joint statement from the Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC) encouraging all members of the legal profession to join us and other legal aid organizations in defending the integrity of our courts and the rights of all to equal justice under the law.
Legal Aid SMC opened 1,722 cases in 2024, providing free legal services to thousands in our San Mateo County community. This included stopping over 80 evictions and providing legal aid to over 500 clients with disabilities. The current administration has attacked the very rule of law that we use to make the social safety net work for everyone, diminishing our legal system and putting our clients and all members of our community at risk.
We urge everyone in the legal community and beyond to continue striving for justice for all. We will continue to support our clients and community in the face of the current administration, and we will always work to make San Mateo County a just and equitable place to live.
